Field Work Lectures or what is usually called KKL is an activity that combines observations, visits and student tours to places, agencies or institutions related to the studies being carried out. In this activity, students will be asked to make direct observations in the field in the form of visits. KKL is one of the routine activities carried out by students which is outlined in classless courses because this activity is carried out in the form of activities.

This year’s KKL activity was carried out by Geological Engineering students class of 2021. This activity was carried out for 6 days from January 31 to February 5 2024. This activity raised the theme “Deepening experience in employment in the industrial, oil and gas sector, East Java region to Bali.” The journey starts from departure and goes straight to PT Semen Indonesia Group (SIG) Tuban, East Java. The journey continues by visiting the Ijen Geopark and followed by crossing to the island of Bali. Upon arrival in Bali, participants visited several tourist attractions as well as carried out geological observations in the field. Some of the places visited were Melasti Beach, Garuda Wisnu Kencana, and Lake Beratan Bedugul. Apart from that, visits were also made to the Manpower Service and ESDM Service of Bali Province.

Different from the previous KKL, this KKL activity has higher euphoria because it is the last KKL that will be undertaken by the Department of Geological Engineering. This is the impact of curriculum changes which removed KKL activities to be included in a new course called Geological Excursion. This KKL concludes the KKL course and is also the final joint activity which will be a lasting memory for the Geological Engineering class of 2021.

During the activity, participants felt they had gained a lot of benefits and experiences. Especially regarding mining, geopark conservation areas, and government resource policies to find out more about geological sciences in the East Java to Bali region. Starting from the cement manufacturing process, exploitation and reclamation from cement companies in Tuban, exploring and exploring management at the Ijen Geopark, as well as increasing understanding of government policies related to groundwater at the Bali Province ESDM Service. By carrying out this activity, participants are expected to be able to sharpen their understanding and expand their knowledge in the field of geology.
