The extended family of the Undip Geological Engineering Department held a farewell ceremony for one of its best lecturers on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. He is Dr. Ir. Wahju Krisna Hidajat, MT who has served for decades. Together with other retired lecturers, Dr. Wahju became one of the founders of the Geological Engineering Department in 2004, after previously teaching at Undip Civil Engineering. During his 20 years of service in Geological Engineering, his dedication and role were very large in all aspects of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

He has a history of education in UGM Geological Engineering, Masters in Regional Planning ITB, and Doctorate in Environmental Science Undip. This is in line with his field of expertise as a hydrogeology expert, not only in the academic world but also professionally. During his service in the department, Mr. Wahju, as we call him, was part of the Environmental Geology Laboratory. Some of the courses he taught were Hydrogeology, Environmental Geology, Field Geology Methods, and Geotourism. His love and flexibility in interacting with students were demonstrated by his role as a lecturer in the field of student affairs for a fairly long period.

He has produced a number of research works, especially in the field of hydrogeology. His professional experience in the field of hydrogeology is various studies of geological and hydrogeological resources, especially with the geoelectric method, the locations of which are spread almost throughout the major islands in Indonesia. As much as possible, he always involves juniors and students in the studies he conducts. In the field of community service, for decades Mr. Wahju has been active in KKN activities. His involvement in these activities certainly involves mentoring activities so that students and the university’s academic community can apply their knowledge to serve the community.

The retirement release activity was carried out to honor his services and roles which were very influential for the department. The event was opened with remarks from the head of the department, Dr. Dian Agus Widiarso. Representatives of lecturers and education staff of Geological Engineering conveyed their impressions, messages, and gratitude to Mr. Wahju who were accepted with advice from him. On this occasion, a souvenir was also given to Mr. Wahju as a sign of love from the department to him. The event was closed with a prayer and a meal together.
