Transfer of Knowledge: Geothermal Goes to Campus is an activity carried out by the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as an effort to develop education in the geothermal field. This activity is a yearly program as a medium for transferring geothermal knowledge to several universities in Indonesia. The third time it was held at the Geological Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University on Thursday (12/11/2020) which was attended by lecturers and students through online Zoom Meeting.

The event started with remarks by the head of the department and an opening from the Geothermal Director explaining the essence and purpose of carrying out this activity. The presentation session was led by moderator Dr.Eng. Agus Setyawan, S.Si, M.Si (FSM Undip) who is a researcher in the field of geothermal geophysics. The topic brought up in the first session was Geothermal Development in Indonesia which was delivered by Mr. Sarman Hutajulu, SE as the Head of Geothermal Cooperation and Investment Section. He explained the status of geothermal development in Indonesia and economic studies to achieve the desired target. Mr Agus responds that there is a need for more synergic cooperation between the government, implementing parties, and academics in efforts to develop geothermal energy in Indonesia.

The second session discussed the Development of Low Enthalpy Geothermal in Indonesia which was delivered by Mr. Budi Kristianto (PT Geo Dipa Energi). Mr Budi’s materials include geological studies of low-medium enthalpy geothermal systems, exploration methods, utilization, and their potential in Indonesia. According to him, currently development in Indonesia is still prioritizing high enthalpy geothermal prospects. However, this limited study needs to be developed, given its excellent potential so that it can be utilized in the future, especially in Eastern Indonesia.

This activity is expected to be able to broaden students’ insights and generate interest in the field of geothermal energy development in Indonesia.
