Geological Engineering students from Diponegoro University (Undip) have continued their positive streak in geological science competitions. The Serelo team, consisting of Muhammad Aimar Naufaldi, Muhammad Audra Aufa Azmi, and Iza Muzakky Ahmad, from the Class of 2022, won first place in the 2025 Sriwijaya Geomapping Competition. Organized by Sriwijaya University, the competition took place from September 6–9, 2025, at two locations: Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, for data collection and laboratory testing, and presentations in Palembang City.
The 2025 Sriwijaya Geomapping Competition featured the concept of hydrogeological mapping. Each team was allocated a 2 x 2 km plot for groundwater level (MAT) measurements, water sampling, river flow hydrograph measurements, and pumping tests. The collected water samples were then subjected to laboratory analysis to determine pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and Dissolved Oxygen (DO). The laboratory data was then interpolated to produce a groundwater quality map and linked with other supporting data such as MAT, hydrograph analysis, and pumping test results to accurately assess the hydrogeological conditions in the plot area.
The team faced challenges faced by the team due to the differing natural, geological, and cultural conditions. However, these challenges and obstacles were successfully overcome, successfully transforming doubt into optimism. Determination, hard work, and prayer were key to the Serelo team’s success in winning first place in the 2025 Sriwijaya Geomapping Competition. Hopefully, this positive result will inspire other Geological Engineering students to continue their achievements and bring honor to the department, HMTG MAGMADIPA, and Diponegoro University.
