In every organization, human resource development in the workplace is a constant endeavor. Improving human resource capacity in terms of skills, attitudes, and behavior is crucial for achieving its goals and objectives. Individuals who continually develop and progress become valuable assets in fostering creativity and problem-solving in the workplace. The Department of Geological Engineering regularly holds this activity annually for its staff and lecturers.

On July 11-12, 2025, the Department of Geological Engineering held a capacity building event in the Pemalang and Tegal areas. The event included an outing and team building program, featuring various engaging activities. The series of activities was attended by 14 active lecturers in the department, including administrators. The group departed from Semarang on Friday morning for a trip to Moga District, Pemalang Regency. At the first location, a 1.5-hour rafting activity on the Comal River was conducted, with a route of easy to moderate difficulty. The lecturers were divided into three teams, who worked together from start to finish. The rafting was quite exciting, refreshing, and physically and mentally stimulating for the participants.

Next, the group moved to Tegal Regency to visit the Guci area, famous for its hot springs from Mount Slamet. In addition to relaxing in the area, the management invited lecturers to discuss and share their opinions on the department’s future goals and objectives. On Saturday morning, participants eagerly visited the hot springs in Guci. While relaxing, soaking in the hot springs provides both relaxation and therapeutic benefits.

The results of this activity were improved communication and teamwork skills within the Geological Engineering Department, both among lecturers and with management. The various activities also provided participants with a way to refresh themselves physically and mentally after the previous academic year. This is expected to improve performance and service delivery, fulfilling the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
